5 December / Landscape Futures in the Twenty-First Century
The Landscape Research Group and the Bartlett School of Architecture MA/MLA Landscape Architecture announce a dialogue event, Landscape Futures in the Twenty-First Century.
The event is hybrid and will take place on Thursday 5th December 2024, at 17:00 GMT.
To attend in person come to 77 Wicklow Street, London or attend via Zoom.
This event will explore how global crises—such as climate change, economic challenges, energy transitions, and social transformations—are reshaping landscapes worldwide. These pressures, including rapid land-use changes and extractive activities, threaten public health, well-being, and the environment. Yet, they also present opportunities to rethink landscape stewardship for a more sustainable future.
Bringing together landscape experts from diverse fields, the event will examine the evolving role of landscapes in human life, addressing issues like food security, cultural heritage, and energy production. Panellists will discuss how landscapes can mitigate the impacts of interconnected global challenges and explore ways to better manage and protect these spaces for local communities and ecosystems.
Moderated by LRG’s new Chair, Professor Theano S. Terkenli, the panel will offer interdisciplinary and international perspectives, blending theoretical insights with practical solutions.
The panellists are:
– Professor Marc Antrop, Emeritus Professor, University of Ghent
– Dr Margherita Cisani, University of Padova
– Professor Tim Ingold, Emeritus Professor, University of Aberdeen.
– Professor Teresa Pinto Correia, University of Évora and Director of MED
– Dr Amy Strecker, University College Dublin
