Nature Park Amager is more than just a park. It’s a sanctuary where nature is the undisputed protagonist. The vision for the project has been to create a space that not only preserves but celebrates the natural landscape. This project aims to craft a park with a strong, unique identity, one that tells a compelling landscape narrative. The architecture here is both visionary and delicate, designed to enhance the park’s natural beauty without overpowering it.
Materials
The architectural vision for the park is deeply rooted in its existing DNA. Instead of introducing foreign elements, the design builds upon the natural vocabulary of the park—its landscapes, experiences, and activities. This approach ensures that the park’s development is in complete harmony with its surroundings. The diverse landscapes and shared features within the park serve as guiding principles, dictating our choice of materials and construction techniques. The buildings consist of exposed wooden structures, distinctive roof shapes, and dark-burnt shingles that integrate seamlessly into the landscape. And a network of tracks and boardwalks ensures accessibility, guiding visitors gently through the park while preserving its essence.
Transition Between Land and Water
At Byskoven, the design celebrates the transition between land and water, creating a beautiful gathering place that harmonizes with its surroundings. Positioned with the city forest as a backdrop and the water at its edge, this open space is an ideal destination. A large wooden deck follows the natural contours of the landscape, creating terraces that gently merge the land with the water. This design fosters a variety of activities, accommodating bathers, kayakers, and other visitors. The expansive deck offers enough space for multiple activities to coexist.
Havneslusen is a unique addition to Nature Park Amager, located on the cusp of the city and surrounded by an organically developed neighborhood of houseboats and the “Nokken” garden community. Here, a floating platform on the water provides access for kayaks and small boats, inviting visitors to explore the harbor. This space is is a versatile gathering place that offers something distinct from any other location in the park or city. Whether used for picnics, educational activities, or simply a place to pause, the covered area is a flexible environment designed for varied uses. The staircase embedded in the terrain behind Havneslusen leads to a stunning viewpoint, offering a serene resting place with panoramic views from the hilltop.
Asger Jorns Allé serves as the primary entrance to the park, creating a dynamic and visible gateway that welcomes visitors. This entrance is marked by a new observation tower, which stands as a beacon along the city’s edge, visible from the nearby metro station. The park’s entrance pathway meanders through dense, bushy vegetation and marshy terrain, allowing visitors to experience the natural environment without disturbing it. A winding boardwalk provides different perspectives of the wilderness, leading to a raised viewpoint above the treetops. From this vantage point, visitors can orient themselves within the landscape, while the path below opens new opportunities for exploration. The boardwalk connects seamlessly to the park’s broader network of trails, inviting further exploration of Nature Park Amager’s rich natural landscape.
