Restructuring measures will transform the former industrial areas with their free trade zones and warehouses into a new mixed-use urban space – the biggest inner-city urban development project in Europe.

In the west of the HafenCity, a welcoming landscape has developed that inspires people to visit and linger. An abundance of greenery and water gives the location its specific identity.

The Mediterranean design has remodelled the former industrial zones, creating a new urban space, in which promenades, streets, plazas, and parks have a direct relationship to the water – a multifaceted landscape with human dimensions, which changes with the tides in some parts, creating closer relations between the people and the water ambience.
