After being raised both in Paris and India, Olivier Philippe studied landscape design at the ‘Ecole Supérieure d’Architecture des Jardins et des Paysages ‘ after which he joined the ‘École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts’ in Paris. He later graduated as a landscape architect from the ‘École Nationale Supérieure du Paysage de Versailles ‘ (ENSP). His professional career started with the crucial encounter with Alexandre Chemetoff, with whom he collaborated for five years. Afterwards, he became a consultant to the ‘Parc de la Villette’ public establishment for developing the iconic park of Bernard Tschumi. During this period, he met Henri Bava and Michel Hössler, with whom he created Agence Ter in 1986. A year later, he started teaching at the ENSP Versailles, directing a workshop in Landscape Project for the next seventeen years, during which he approached all scales of urban and regional project with landscape as the vector for development. Between 1995 and 1998, he was a landscape advisor to the state for the Aisne department. From 1999 to 2006, as the sole partner directing Agence Ter’s Paris studios, he led urban projects such as Euralille 2 (the Inhabited Wood), Portes d’Arcueil (la Vache Noire) or the vast North Bahrain New Town, whilst managing major public space and park projects such as Cormailles Park in Ivry. More recent projects are the Park of Billancourt in Boulogne-Billancourt, the Dockland Park of Saint Ouen, and a new campus to the north of Paris, the Campus Condorcet. His international projects include the Square of ‘Les Glories Catalanes’ at Barcelona and Geneva’s ‘Quartier de l’Etang’ . In 2008 Philippe was president of the jury for the awards to emerging architects and landscape designers – ‘Nouveaux albums des jeunes architectes et paysagistes’, and that year he joined the council of administration for the European architectural competition, Europan France. In 2011, alongside Henri Bava and Michel Hössler he led a design studio at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. He currently teaches at the Barcelona School of Architecture.
