MDT-tex, proudly presents the Climate Intervention Canopy in Abu Dhabi as a prime example of our commitment to blending innovative design with environmental consciousness. This project stands as a testament to our expertise in crafting textile architectures that not only meet the aesthetic demands of modern urban spaces but also address ecological challenges.

In Abu Dhabi, we developed the Climate Intervention Canopy, a system of modular grid structures with technical flags that roll up, designed in close collaboration with our clients. The canopies were constructed at three distinct sites, each featuring interconnected square modules that allow for versatile configurations. Embedded within each module is a specially engineered motor, designed for optimal thermal management, which controls the movement of the PTFE flags through a unique winding system.

The functionality of these canopies is twofold: during the day, the flags are lowered to shield visitors from the harsh sun, significantly improving comfort and reducing the heat in the environment. At night, the flags are retracted, allowing the accumulated heat to dissipate into the night sky, aiding in the natural cooling of the area. This innovative approach not only enhances the utility of the space but also integrates smoothly with the surrounding urban environment.

Our Climate Intervention Canopy project is a pioneering initiative that demonstrates MDT-tex’s ability to deliver tailor-made solutions that are both aesthetically pleasing and environmentally sustainable.
