The highly frequented arrival and transit space is located in the urban space, set back from Rathausstrasse, and feels at the back of the city. This feeling is reinforced by the adjacent buildings, which are either currently out of use or do not form a frontage to the square. The space of Mühlener Bahnhof is strongly characterized by functional constraints. The task was to create a connection between Mühlener Bahnhof and Rathausstrasse, to generate identity in the highly functional urban space and to strengthen the sense of security.

A color coding runs as a new layer through the planning area and connects Mühlener Bahnhof with Rathausstraße. It symbolizes the qualities of the green backdrop and the new Bastinsweiher pond.

In order to incorporate the themes of green and water (Bastinsweiher / Vicht), the color gradient develops from the green backdrop (also a reference to the copper town) to blue – a reference to the Bastinsweiher as well as the blue dyeing tradition.

This new color layer is made visible by a blue-green striped carpet of marking paint along the bus shelters, colored lamp posts that follow the color gradient along the route, and by wrapping the existing glass walls of the existing bus shelters.

This semi-transparent film shows the historical development of the green backdrop in an abstract way. The new color layer creates references to the space and history and conveys a new identity for the space.
