The town of Baesweiler plans to further qualify and realize the Sportpark Baesweiler, as developed in a previous concept study by DTP. The importance of the Sportpark Baesweiler and its link to the town center and Carl Alexander Park has already been outlined in the integrated action plan. With its indoor swimming pool, sports and tennis courts and extensive children’s playground, the sports park already offers a wide range of leisure activities and is of great importance to the town. The aim of the redesign is to integrate the existing club sports areas with a public function as a park. In the first construction phase, the areas around the indoor swimming pool and the tennis courts are now to be specified.

New facilities rejuvenate the Sportpark and make it fit for the future. By integrating leisure and club sports, squares and parks and the associated synergy effects, the Sportpark Baesweiler is gaining in importance and attractiveness for all citizens, thus becoming an integrated sports and community park. In the first construction phase, the entrance areas were redesigned in terms of function and design. Visual connections and red steles as a “signet” provide a link to the surrounding urban space. In addition, the water playground was redesigned as the “Baesweiler Beach”, the network of paths was improved and extended, and play and fitness elements as well as barrier-free access and recreational facilities were established. In the second phase, a skate park, a boules court and a multi-sports field were planned and installed.
